GreenLight Biosciences Announces Close of Additional Fundraising

26 Mar, 2025

GreenLight Biosciences, Inc., a leader in next-generation biosolutions for agriculture, has successfully closed its Series C funding round, securing a $25 million investment from Just Climate, a mission-driven investor focused on high-impact climate solutions, along with additional support from both new and existing shareholders. This investment affirms the innovative approach GreenLight Biosciences is taking to develop sustainable solutions that enhance agricultural productivity while safeguarding biodiversity.

The new capital will support GreenLight Biosciences' commercial momentum following the successful launch of Calantha™, the first-ever RNA-based crop protection spray, which is now registered in both the United States and Ukraine. Calantha™ has demonstrated outstanding efficacy, providing potato growers with a safe, easy-to-use, and environmentally responsible alternative to conventional chemical pesticides.

Dr. Andrey Zarur, CEO of GreenLight Biosciences, commented, “This strategic investment from Just Climate and other supporters represents a powerful endorsement of our RNA platform’s potential to revolutionize agriculture and address environmental challenges, including pollinator health. With this funding, we are poised to scale our operations, advance our product pipeline, expand internationally, and continue our mission of building a safer, more equitable food system using nature.”

The funding will also support several other key initiatives:

Product Pipeline Advancement

Once registered in the U.S., GreenLight Biosciences plans to rapidly commercialize Norroa™, a new tool designed to help beekeepers protect their colonies from varroa mites. This innovation is timely, as recent data from the Honey Bee Health Coalition reveals that beekeepers experienced catastrophic honeybee colony losses averaging 62% between June 2024 and February 2025. Additionally, the company will continue to internationalize Fortivance™, a novel adjuvant that enhances the efficiency of existing agricultural treatments and reduces their environmental impact.

Global Expansion

The investment enables GreenLight Biosciences to expand further into key international markets, including Brazil and other Latin American countries. The company’s recent efforts include the establishment of a state-of-the-art Agricultural Research Station in Seville, Spain, which now serves as the company’s European hub for innovation and collaborative research in sustainable agriculture practices.

Sustainability Leadership

GreenLight Biosciences will continue to strengthen its leadership in agricultural sustainability, pioneering solutions that offer farmers alternatives to conventional chemical pesticides, minimize environmental impact, and support biodiversity while maintaining food production.

Eduardo Mufarej, head of the Natural Climate Solutions strategy and co-Chief Investment Officer at Just Climate, stated, GreenLight Biosciences exemplifies the kind of innovative enterprise that can deliver transformative environmental impact while building sustainable commercial success. Their platform addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing global agriculture and biodiversity conservation. We are proud to support GreenLight Biosciences’ mission and their solutions that help protect crops, pollinators, and our planet’s ecosystems.
